Goalkeeping & Football Courses
The Shay Given Foundation was established to offer young goalkeepers the opportunity to learn all the arts and skills of goalkeeping. The foundation provides regular programmes of football and goalkeeping courses in the school holidays throughout the year.
With the backing of one of the Premier League's leading 'keepers our local youngsters, and those in Shay's hometown of Lifford in Ireland, are 'Given' the best possible introduction to football coaching.
Fundraising
The Shay Given Foundation fundraising events include Sporting Dinners, Golf Days and Sports Quiz nights, with Fashion Kicks and Chefs United being two of the biggest evenings in Newcastle.
These events have helped in making a difference to so many families affected by cancer who have benefitted from the monies raised.
The Foundation, as well as supporting several local charities, helps towards the cost of coaching young footballers and goal-keepers on SGF holiday courses. Deele Harps Juniors, from Shay's hometown of Lifford, were able to benefit from such support this summer when we visited Ireland.
As Tyneside fundraising patron to Macmillan Cancer Support, Shay is extremely proud of his association with Macmillan. And Shay's wife Jane lends her support to many fundraising events, especially in helping to organise Fashion Kicks, a huge event in the social calendar. Jane recently completed the Great North Run and raised a fantastic amount of money for Macmillan.
